"Dogs Don't Bite Out of the Blue."

As a pediatric trauma nurse and professional dog trainer, I continue to be alarmed at the number of dog bites we see in The Emergency Room at Rady Children's Hospital. On average, we see and treat 377 dog bites a year, about one dog bite every day. Dog bites to children are particularly stressful because they are almost always to the face, and generally they require sutures with the child under sedation.  Many parents are shocked that their sweet, loving pet could bite, but surprisingly, about 77% of the bites come our own pets or dogs we know and love.

Over the past several years, supported generously by The San Diego Chapter of The Emergency Nurses Association, I have developed educational materials and this website to help people understand that  "Dogs Don't Bite Out of the Blue."

Stop THE 77
